The Greatest Sport In The World On Satellite Tv

Now, nobody wants to start an argument, but if you were asked what was the greatest sport in the world, what would you say? Granted, it depends on where in the United States you live. If you live up north or in the Midwest, hockey may be the answer. Around the Northeast, baseball is usually the most common response. And everywhere else in the nation people will answer either football or basketball. Yet, when it comes to the greatest sport in the world, there can be none other than soccer.

Please, do not jump up and scream just yet, explaining is of course on its way. Sure, football, hockey, baseball and basketball are amazing sports, but soccer has them beat due to its international recognition. Every country has multiple soccer teams as well as a national team and for many Latin American and European places, soccer is life. When it is on cable and satellite TV, entire cities stop operating so that fans can watch their favorite teams compete.

Within the United States, soccer is not really that big of a deal. Of course children play it when they are younger, but as far as television coverage is concerned, it is dominated by all of the other American games in the ratings. People would rather watch a football game than sit through a Soccer Game on TV, even though football is littered with commercials every five minutes while soccer plays continuously for two 45-minute halves.

One thing that many fail to realize, however, is that soccer is broadcasted on cable and satellite TV channels as much, if not more, than all other American sports. While football and basketball have given nights on the primetime schedule, there is always a soccer game on television, whether on FSN, ESPN or ESPN2. Of course, hockey and baseball have subscription channels that play every game live, but so does soccer. In fact, soccer has more than one subscription service so that fans of whatever division in Europe or South America can catch up on all of the action. All worldwide games are broadcasted.

Yet, the main reason why soccer towers over all others is none other than the World Cup, the world-renowned tournament that happens every four years. Pitting country against country, nation against nation, the World Cup is the ultimate event.  The Olympics are great, but the World Cup is even greater.

The upcoming 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be especially interesting because for the first time ever, the United States soccer team is actually good. They have been playing very well on the international circuit and if all things go well they could see themselves making it past the round-robin portion. This could cause a change in tides within the United States, one that generates many more soccer fans. Not to mention that with 3D viewing technology premiering on cable and satellite TV stations for the inaugural game in June, soccer may start to see more converts than previously expected.

So, while the argument still exists, the fact of the matter is that soccer truly is the world’s one and only game.

so, looks like soccer took over espn classic?

They show repeats of world cup games from the morning on regular espn instead of airing AWA WRESTLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BQ why can;t espn classic keep a standard schedule????

I know, its a shame. I liked watching AWA wrestling on ESPN classic. Some awesome matches. Get to see Scott Hall, Curt Hennig, and even Hulk Hogan all when they were real young and just starting out. (Hall’s mustache from back then killed me lol)

I know this is kind of random. But don’t you think Joe Hennig aka “micheal mcgilluicutty” looks eerily alot like his dad? I think that if he shaved his beard and mustache, he’d damn near be his clone. That’s probably why he doesn’t shave lmao.

Does it seem like soccer aficionados speak a language all their own? It sure seems like it to me, and I’ve been playing the game for over 20 years. I put an article on the front page of this blog to help explain the most common soccer terms in plain English. Hopefully this list will help soccer moms everywhere (and soccer dads too, for that matter)to better understand what their little athlete is talking about! Click Here For Access: Soccer Terms.
