in soccer, i saw a player get yellow carded for not backing up 10 feet on a free kick?
he didnt do anything unsportsmanlike, he just didn’t back up. i always understood the rule that a player should ask for 10 yards… meaning this shouldnt be a yellow card?
A player must automatically retrieve 10 meters from the ball irregardless of the opponents request. If he fail to retrieve, the referee is obligated to show the yellow card. The referee is right to give the card..
A player can ask for the 10 meter space only if he wants to shoot at goal.
