Need some info regarding accommodation in Jo’burg during the World Cup. Areas to stay..avoid, etc?
I’m been lucky enough to get tickets to 4 World Cup matches at Jo’burg in June, 2010. 2 matches in Ellis Park and 2 in Soccer City. I’m looking for hotels, which are the best places to stay…reasonable distance from the two stadia and shopping areas, etc. (Budget – 1200 Rand for a single room with twin beds).
Also do you know whether bookings for the hotels have already opened?

You don’t specify what quality of accommodation you are looking for the bottom end of the range are the F1 hotels. Within your budget is also the Protea group.
Places to avoid are pretty numerous in SA. The National Geographic team that did an article on Johannesburg a few years ago couldn’t wait to get back to the safety of Iraq. The Northern suburbs are reasonable safe.
Some of the hotels have opened bookings for 2010. Avoid the packaged accommodation specials – there are scamers trying to defraud visitors so keep your dealings to a reputable hotel chain or B&B and deal directly with them.
