NUFC – Actually the first one to be called United
Though the list of famous United’s in English football is quite long but the Newcastle United was the first team who merged the two inter-city teams and it was NUFC who kicked the ball off.
NUFC has become a symbol of a United front that stems back generations. There are many other factors involved in the merging of Newcastle, United. Now the NUFC is the heartbeat of the society; they don’t consider, what happened in the past but now this football team is considered to be the centre of attention for the whole city. Loyal is one word that describes the citizens of Newcastle and the fans of NUFC.
The two teams Newcastle West End and Newcastle East End in 1892 merged and became Newcastle United; the other familiarized name of this team is NUFC that is most commonly used till now and they use the same ground that was used in past, though there are other St James’ park as well of modern comforts.
The United’s who are more famous are not actually United’s. Manchester United, Leeds United, Sheffield United and West Ham United all became a United due to a name change and not because of a direct result of a merger between two teams from the same city. In this consideration the NUFC trumps all.
It’s hard to say that Newcastle United are trendsetters when it comes to being united, but given the fact that they are the first team to officially use the United tag in its correct prose you would have to say that on this occasion, it is NUFC who set the trend.
The local teams who are from lower leagues of English football are now more common to merge but still there are many teams who have been marked the label of United. In 1899 the Brumby Hall joined an unknown team and was given the name Scunthorpe United; since then it is the highest ranked team who have correctly adopted the United label. Previously the validity of this move was doubtful and so in order to remove this doubt, new club merged with another club in 1910. Thus NUFC, again trumps the feat.
So there you go, and now you know just which club is the first proper United. Pick the right answer next time when you get the quiz related to this topic. And the answer is obviously, Newcastle United.

I put an article on the front page of this blog to help explain the most common soccer terms in plain English. Hopefully this list will help soccer moms everywhere (and soccer dads too, for that matter)to better understand what their little athlete is talking about! Click Here For Access: Soccer Terms.
