Catch the Hottest Canadian Hockey Players on Satellite TV
Hockey has always been a bit more of a niche sport in the U.S. It’s incredibly popular in the north east, where long, hard winters and a border shared with hockey-obsessed Canada make it as popular as football in the American Midwest or soccer in Europe and Latin America. But it is slowly spreading to other parts of the country as well, with well-loved teams popping up as far south as Tampa Bay (the Lightening) and North Carolina (the Hurricanes), and as far west as Phoenix (the Coyotes) and San Jose (the Sharks). Relatively cheap live tickets and an electric, wintery atmosphere are making it one of the fastest-growing sports in America! And with sports-oriented satellite TV packages, you’ll be able to follow your favorite teams around the continent as they play games with other U.S. and Canadian teams.
But for some, watching a miniscule black puck flying back and forth across the ice for 2 hours, with the only relief being the occasional bloody fight between two dudes in 6 inches of padding, is not enough worth the time. Something else can attract these non-fans to the sport, however: the promise of sweaty, hunky Canadian hockey players. Women (or, theoretically, men) who watch hockey solely for the eye candy are often referred to derisively as “puck bunnies”, but how can you help yourself when you’re presented with the likes of Sidney Crosby? Seriously, have you seen that baby-face and that pearly white smile? Here’s a breakdown of the hottest players in professional hockey today.
1. Sidney Crosby
This Nova Scotia-born 22-year-old is already the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Earlier this year he scored the final overtime goal that led Canada to the Gold Metal in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver over fierce rivals to the south, the U.S. In 2005, he was such a hot draft pick that he was dubbed “The Next One.” By his second season, he had become the leading scorer in the NHL, becoming the first and only teenager to win the Art Ross Trophy. He also became the youngest captain to win the Stanley Cup when he led the Penguins to the NHL Championship in 2009. Oh, and he’s super gorgeous, to boot.
2. Jason Spezza
Born to Italian parents in the Toronto suburbs, this future Ottawa Center was a successful baby model before his first birthday. As his hockey talents developed, his good looks did not fade. He is one of the Senator’s top scorers, and in 2008 had a career-high 6-point night. He played for Team Canada in the 2010 Olympics, as well.
3. Carey Price
This 22-year-old Canuck has served as goaltender for the beloved Montreal Canadiens (also known as the “Habs” – don’t ask why) since October 2007 after working his way up through the junior league system. By March 2008, he was named NHL Rookie of the Month and NHL First Star of the Week in April.
4. Jonathan Toews
Born to Mennonites in Winnipeg, Manitoba, an isolated city in the Canadian Prairies, Toews currently serves as team captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, leading the team to the Stanley Cup this year. He won MVP for his performance in the game, and became the youngest player inducted into the Triple Gold Club. During Team Canada’s Olympic run, he scored 8 goals, more than anyone on his team.

Any Canadian stores where I can buy English Premier League soccer shirts?
I’m looking to buy some English Premier league polo shirts, jackets, etc. (i.e. not just kits/jerseys) from an online or brick and mortar store in Canada. I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, so if there are any local stores around there, that’d be great too. I’m looking specifically for Tottenham Hotspur gear, so it would need to have more than the “biggest” teams like Man U. or Arsenal.
Thanks

Does it seem like soccer aficionados speak a language all their own? It sure seems like it to me, and I’ve been playing the game for over 20 years. I put an article on the front page of this blog to help explain the most common soccer terms in plain English. Hopefully this list will help soccer moms everywhere (and soccer dads too, for that matter)to better understand what their little athlete is talking about! Click Here For Access: Soccer Terms.
