Think about your pup, who can sit, shake, roll over, play dead, and heel. Think about how your dog knows when you’re sad and comes to sit by your side to make you feel better. Think about how older dogs mourn the loss of their companions. Think about how lonely your dog gets when he’s stuck at home alone all day.

Pig studies show that they are affectionate, loyal, and extremely smart. They are able to play with soccer balls, remember the uses for different toys, adjust the temperature in their barns, and even play joy stick video games better than some primates. According to a study done by Professor Stanley Curtis of Penn State University, they love massages and listening to music, and they can dream and recognize their own name.

Now imagine your sweet little girl dog tied by the neck to a 2-foot chain attached to a crate. Imagine your dog is unable to turn over or stand up, and imagine her pregnant, as she has been all her life. Imagine how she got pregnant- by forced rape from a male. Imagine she has those pups and is unable to turn over to care for them, and then is separated from them when they are barely able to nurse. Normally her pups would run to her immediately after birth, and she would sing to them during nursing.

And then imagine her being “impregnated” again. She never gets to build a nest for her pups, and she often gets a stomach infection from the milk left over from previous litters.

Think of the lonely male in the next crate over, who instinctively loves to play with friends and lay in the sun. He’s crammed into a pen so stuffed with others that he often walks over his dead friends. While he prefers cleanliness and the coolness of baths, he lives in excrement with no water to roll in. He is so bored that he starts to chew on a tail from a nearby neighbor. Another guy is chewing on his tail, a hotbed of sensors as acute as our fingers. Now he’s being sent to have that tail cut off, without any anesthesia, to prevent someone from chewing on it. He already had his scrotum pulled out without any anesthesia.

He’s terrified and in such excruciating pain, bored to the brink of insanity, that he starts biting the edges of his pen, wearing his teeth down to nubs. He’s never able to forage the earth for food, like he’s used to doing in the wild. Think of your dog, who prefers to be very clean and hates to poop near where he sleeps. He’s breathing in so much ammonia from the poop that is gathering below a grate under his feet that he develops infections, and some of his friends die.

Now imagine your dog is smarter and more aware of her surroundings than most dogs. She knows she’s being abused. She is sad, lonely, and worst of all, suffering. That’s the life of the pigs that people eat across the world. That’s what they go through, in the best of circumstances. Thousands of them, on a daily basis. There are an estimated 1.3 billion pigs 100 million pigs killed for food annually, 100 million in the U.S. alone. Some are even brutally abused, just for the amusement of the caretakers.

When it’s time to slaughter pigs, which means exhausted adult females and 6-month old males (well before their nature expiration point of 15 years,) they are forced violently into trucks where they travel hundreds of miles without food, water, air, or place to defecate. In the summer, they often suffer from heat exhaustion, and in the winter they often freeze to the sides of the truck, and are never given breaks to stop to defecate or drink water.

A rough of estimate of 1 million pigs die on the way to the slaughterhouse, about 500,000 are crippled, and about 100,000 are so sick they cannot move; the rest are about to be slaughtered. Most have pneumonia from the toxic gases in their barns, arthritis and joint problems from growing too quickly, and many are well past insane from the containment on their farm. The “downers” (an factory farming industry term for those who are too sick to move) are poked with electrical rods in every hole on their body and dragged with chains to remove them from the truck. Until recently, it was legal to use “downers” for human consumption, and many report that the practice still happens.

The average slaughterhouse kills approximately 1000 pigs each hour, which means they are moving through at tremendous speed, making it nearly impossible to humanely kill each one. They are hung upside down by their legs, which usually break from the weight of their body, and they are hit on the head with a stun gun. The bolt often misses and they retain consciousness. The pigs are then dipped in scalding water to remove their hair and soften their skin, and many are completely conscious for this process. The sound of pigs squealing is so loud that workers have trouble talking to one another at the slaughterhouses.

What should I spend with 200 bucks?

I got 200 dollars from my parents for my report card. What should I buy?? I have an ipod nano and i dont want to buy accessories for it. I like soccer, clothes(but i dont really want any more), shoes, hair(im thinking about dying it and getting i cut, can u send me some links to pics and stuff?), decorations for my room. I was thinking about buying a little pink tv for my room.
I also like makeup!

: o You get $200 for good grades on a report card?!! Lucky! Yeah, you should get your hair done, and I don’t really know your style, so I wouldn’t know what cut you’d want. maybe get a few flipflops because it’s almost spring. A little pink tv sounds so cute! But I think you should wait a little longer for one because they might be a little too expensive for $200. Maybe you could buy a few songs for your ipod or save some money to spend on a day with your friends.

Does it seem like soccer aficionados speak a language all their own? It sure seems like it to me, and I’ve been playing the game for over 20 years. I put an article on the front page of this blog to help explain the most common soccer terms in plain English. Hopefully this list will help soccer moms everywhere (and soccer dads too, for that matter)to better understand what their little athlete is talking about! Click Here For Access: Soccer Terms.
