Paint a Soccer Field with U-Stripe-It – Stage 3 (part 1)

soccer field paint

what is the half moon on top of the penalty area on a soccer field used for?

why is it painted there? what is it used for?

it’s just to make sure every player was 10 yards away from the penalty spot when a penalty is being taken..have u seen a penalty kick before?no player would stand in it instead they stood around the semicircle..maybe u didnt notice it because the camera usually focus on the ball and goal..

so let me give u a similar example where u can always see..the same rule applied to the circle at the center of the field..when a kick off is about to be made..the opposition side must not stand inside the circle..i’m sure u noticed that right..?that is because they must not be within ten yards from the ball..the same rule applied for free kick where the wall must be 10 yards away..

so a simple answer to ur question is that the semicircle is just for making sure that players are 10 yards away from the spot..that’s all..this also means that the semicircle’s radius is 10 yards where the centroid is the penalty spot..it doesnt included as penalty box which means goalie cannot handle the ball there and penalty wont be awarded if a foul occured there..

Does it seem like soccer aficionados speak a language all their own? It sure seems like it to me, and I’ve been playing the game for over 20 years. I put an article on the front page of this blog to help explain the most common soccer terms in plain English. Hopefully this list will help soccer moms everywhere (and soccer dads too, for that matter)to better understand what their little athlete is talking about! Click Here For Access: Soccer Terms.
