What Are Campaigns, AdGroups and Keywords in Google Pay Per Click?

When you have decided to get in the Pay Per Click game on Google, the first thing you will need is a Google AdWords account, which totally free. This is where you will build your campaigns, ad-groups, and keywords. Make sure you understand the definition of each, and how they relate to each other.

Lets go over these basics in case you need a little refresher or are just getting started.

Campaigns are your broad collection.  A campaign has ad-groups inside that represent the elements of the campaign. Ad groups are more focused and have a specific purpose. Each of your ad-groups all have multiple keywords.

If that is a little tough to visualize, lets try this…

Say you decide to start with 2 campaigns. Each campaign will have 20 to 50 ad-groups inside it. Then each ad-group has 10-50 keywords. Remember, you don’t need to have 2 campaigns to get started. Some people start with one campaign that has 4 or 5 ad-groups and 5-10 keywords. You just have to get started, and then you will continue to build.

Here’s a quick example. Lets say you are selling athletic shoes, then you might want to create a campaign titled: Sports. You would then have ad-groups for every sport. I only say this because I’m assuming regardless of what sport a person plays, almost every athlete has a pair of running shoes or athletic shoes. (Find the target markets specific to your product or service).

Okay, so in your campaign titled “sports” you would have ad-groups titled: Soccer, Baseball, Football, Running, Cycling, and so on. Then within each of those ad-groups, you will have 10 to 50 keywords. Just remember to keep your ad-groups clean and tight. Some of the keywords you might have in your “soccer” ad group: soccer shoes, soccer gear, Soccer Apparel, Nike soccer shoes, Adidas Soccer shoes.  So when someone types in the words “soccer gear” your ad will display and have the potential to be clicked on. (Bidding takes place on the keyword level).

Campaigns, ad-groups and keywords represent the basic organizational structure for Google AdWords. You must take the time to learn these terms so you can start making money with Google Pay Per Click Advertising. Get the basics down first so you get off to a running start. Always remember, keep your ad-groups and keywords clean and tight.

EUROPE HAS A VAST AMOUNT OF DESIGNERS’ TALENT. SO YES ON THAT COUNT.

Does it seem like soccer aficionados speak a language all their own? It sure seems like it to me, and I’ve been playing the game for over 20 years. I put an article on the front page of this blog to help explain the most common soccer terms in plain English. Hopefully this list will help soccer moms everywhere (and soccer dads too, for that matter)to better understand what their little athlete is talking about! Click Here For Access: Soccer Terms.
