Brazil Football Team: Dangerous Contenders For The Soccer Worldcup

The Brazil football team has their name against five Soccer Worldcup tournaments, after being the only team to have taken part in all 19 games. With statistics such as these, it’s no wonder they are regarded as a favorite for the South Africa Worldcup 2010.

Brazil hosted the 1950 Soccer Worldcup, which ended in devastation as they were crushed in the finals by Uruguay. As confirmation of their disappointment, the Brazilian Soccer Team has never worn white soccer shirts since that year. In 1958 in Sweden, they became the first team to win the Soccer Worldcup in another continent.
The Brazilian soccer team’s pinnacle performance was at the 1970 Mexico World Cup where they claimed their third Soccer Worldcup victory. But unfortunately, this victory was not to be continued again until the 1994 USA World Cup.

At the 1998 France Soccer Worldcup, they were once again placed as the favorites; however this was not to be the case, with the notorious Ronaldo story at the top of every person’s attention. But in 2002, after Ronaldo was cleared, all was forgotten at the Korea / Japan Soccer Worldcup and once again the Brazil football team rose to the challenge and took the championship.

The Brazilian soccer team is solid and has a penetration of talent. Alongside Spain, they are once more ranked as the South Africa Worldcup 2010 favorites, to lay claim to the Jules Rimet Trophy.

Brazil Football Stars

It’s really hard to single out a few of players amongst the Brazilian soccer team which is overflowing with skill. However during the Brazil soccer 2009 season, a couple of legends stood out from the crowd. To begin with, the exceptional goalkeeper Julio Cesar, who has played in 18 Soccer Worldcup tournaments. His safe hands continue to be a fundamental characteristic of the team’s success. Kaka has turned out to be a resource of inspiration for the Brazilian soccer team after his fabulous performance during the Brazil soccer 2009 season which led to his commendable claim of the Adidas Golden Ball. And of course Luis Fabiano’s world class performance with five goals including a priceless brace in their defeat over the USA, tallying 9 Soccer Worldcup goals to his name.

Brazilian Soccer Team Leader

Born October 31, 1963 in Ijuí, Brazil, Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri (better known as Dunga) is no foreigner to Brazil football. As an intense and powerful midfielder, Dunga sure has experienced his adequate share of emotions as a Brazilian soccer team player. At the ripe age of 30, he captained the team to victory at the 1994 USA World Cup.

After 6 years of retirement, Dunga accepted the responsibility as the Brazilian soccer team coach in August 2006, in spite of his deficient experience as a coach. In his preliminary months he received a lot of negativity as a result of his alternative style. However, he discharged much of the reservation when he led A Canarinha to glory at the 2007 Copa America and the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, as well as finishing top of their group in the South Africa Worldcup 2010 qualifiers. Dunga has said a few times that he intends to retire after this season, so let’s see what emerges and who his successor will be. It’s anyone’s speculation at this point.

Brazil Soccer Team Successes

- The South African Worldcup 2010 crystallizes the Brazilian soccer team’s 19th successive FIFA World Cup final. They are the only country to have taken part in all Soccer Worldcup games.
- Brazil takes pride in being the only country to secure the Jules Rimet Trophy five times: 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. Of their 92 games played they have achieved 64 victories, 14 draws and 14 defeats.
- During 15 June 2008 and 11 October 2009, the Brazil football team celebrated 19 unbeaten games.

Does it seem like soccer aficionados speak a language all their own? It sure seems like it to me, and I’ve been playing the game for over 20 years. I put an article on the front page of this blog to help explain the most common soccer terms in plain English. Hopefully this list will help soccer moms everywhere (and soccer dads too, for that matter)to better understand what their little athlete is talking about! Click Here For Access: Soccer Terms.
