Best Young Canadian Soccer Players
Since today we have seen that Canada’s national team cannot compete with top international teams, we look to Canada’s soccer future. Today, much of Canada’s hopes of competing in the World Cup depend on players born in Canada and develop overseas in Europe. Here is a list of young players that may develop into quality players for Canada.
Jaime Peters
He is 23 and a 5ft8 midfielder from Pickering, Ontario. He is a member of Ipswich City who play in the Championship which is the second highest league in English soccer. He was signed in 2005 and has been put on loan to Gillingham for a short period but has since been recalled to Ipswich City. He has represented Canada 21 times and scored once.
Marcus Haber
He is 21 years old, 6ft3 Forward. He is currently signed by West Bromwich Albion who finished second in the Championship in English soccer. He is currently on loan to Vancouver Whitecaps, who he was signed with previous to playing with West Bromwich Albion.
Nana Attakora
A 21 year old 6ft1 Defender. He currently plays with Toronto FC. He has played with almost every level of Canadian International teams and now he is ready to step up to be a regular player with the Men’s National Team. He is getting regular playing time with TFC which will only improve this young player.
David Hoilett
A 5ft8 striker from Ottawa who is only 19 years old. Although he hasn’t yet decided to play for Canada he is still a young Canadian with potential to play for his home and native land. He currently play for Blackburn Rovers of the English Premier League. He would be a great addition to the Canadian team and a big step towards an improving national team.
David Edgar
A 6ft4, 23 year old defender from Kitchener, Ontario. He is currently under contract with English premier league side Burnley but was put on loan to championship side Swansea City in March of 2010. Getting a lot of playing time with a Championship side is better than riding the pine on a team that is destined for the championship.
Marcel de Jong
A 5ft9, 23 year old midfielder born in New Market, Ontario. Currently plays for FC Augsburg in Germany. He is currently the last player to score for Canada in an international game int he 2009 Gold Cup against Costa Rica.
There are many other players that could develop into great talents for Canada, but this is just a short sample. Left off this list is Jonathan de Guzman because of the fact that he has declared to play for Holland, though I have heard that he can still possibly play for Canada because he hasn’t played for the Dutch senior national team.

Go Ajax!! The best soccer team in the world!!
Ga Ajax!! Het beste voetbalteam in de wereld!!
Does it seem like soccer aficionados speak a language all their own? It sure seems like it to me, and I’ve been playing the game for over 20 years. I put an article on the front page of this blog to help explain the most common soccer terms in plain English. Hopefully this list will help soccer moms everywhere (and soccer dads too, for that matter)to better understand what their little athlete is talking about! Click Here For Access: Soccer Terms.
